Staff Answer

Is the Texas journeyman electrician exam multiple choice?

Yes. Both parts of the TDLR Journeyman exam are multiple choice. The NEC Knowledge part is 59 questions in 130 minutes and the Calculations part is 26 questions in 110 minutes. There is no written essay or hands-on practical section. You need 70 percent on each part, and the two are scored separately.

Both parts are multiple choice

There is no practical or oral component. Every question on both parts is multiple choice against your own soft-bound NEC 2023.

59 and 26 questions

NEC Knowledge is 59 questions in 130 minutes. Calculations is 26 questions in 110 minutes. The two are timed separately.

70 percent on each

You pass or fail each part on its own at 70 percent. A strong code score does not carry a weak calculations score.

Bottom line

All multiple choice, two timed parts, 70 percent needed on each one separately.
