Do I schedule the California General Electrician exam through Pearson VUE?
For exams on or after June 1, 2026, California General Electrician exams are scheduled through Pearson VUE. DIR still approves your eligibility and CPS HR Consulting administers the certification, but the seat booking and test-center scheduling runs through Pearson VUE once you are cleared to test.

Get DIR approval first
You cannot schedule anything until DIR confirms your 8,000 hours and eligibility. The application and approval come before any Pearson VUE booking.
Book through Pearson VUE
For exams dated June 1, 2026 and later, Pearson VUE handles scheduling. You pick a test center and date through their system after CPS HR clears you to register.
Confirm what to bring
Bring acceptable ID per Pearson VUE rules. You do not bring reference books. The 2023 NEC, 2024 NFPA 70E, and 2022 Cal/OSHA Pocket Guide are provided at the center.
DIR clears you, CPS HR registers you, Pearson VUE books the seat for exams from June 1, 2026 on.
